Welcome to Surf & Marlinda Records!
Marlinda Records was established at the same time as Surf Records. Surf Records was a full union label, whereas Marlinda was in the non-union genre. This way Kenny Babcock, the founder of these companies, provided the entire music business with Great! music.
During the 1950's and 1960's Surf Records and Marlinda Records (Surf's sister company) where very progressive and prolific in music production. Surf had recording star's like Judy Harriet Spiegelman, who was one of the original Walt Disney Mouseketeers; Harold Lloyd Junior (Duke Lloyd) who was the son of the famous silent movie star Harold Lloyd, Duke Lloyd already had Star'd in many movies when he signed on with Surf Records; along with many more Stars of that era.

Surf Records has always grooved on providing that keen sound that captured the dreams of a generation. After over fourty years we have decided to re-release our catalog of songs that are loved by millions. Surf has included Ringtones in the catalog too. We are also offering the Sounds of todays music also.
Kenny, also formed two Music Publishing companies. LeAlan Music Publishing was affiliated with BMI (Broadcaster Music Incorporated) and LinAlan Music Publishing was affiliated with ASCAP (American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers). I, Keith, was just a kid then. I was about 14 years old when all of the Music actiivity was in full swing then, I was present and participated in every recording session. Most of Surf's recording was done at Goldstar Recording Studios on Vine Street and Santa Mopnica Blvd in Hollywood, California. Marlinda's recording was done at Kenny's recording studio in Burbank, California.
Margaret Babcock, Kenny's wife, was a song writer, in her own right. She Composed and Authored the song "Incident'lly, I Love You" sung by Del Erickson, Published by LeAlan Publishing - BMI and released on Surf Records in 1958. Surf's ID# 5029-45.

Kenny Babcock, at his manufacturing Company, made the records from magnetic tape masters to finished record product. The punch press, pictured above, was used to trim the 45 rpm records when they came out of the record pressing machine. The punch press would make the center whole the size that all 45 rpm records have. At the same time it would trim the excess vinyl off the outside edge of the record. That trim die is not install on the press in the picture. Just in case you were trying to figure out how that die would do the triming.
He also had overflow manufacturing available with the H.V. Wadell Company, in Burbank, for making large quantity's of high demand records.
Barbara (Babcock) Granucci, Kenny's oldest daughter was the unofficial efficienado of Rock n' Roll Music in the 1950's. She loved her 1956 Thunderbird. You can tell the music performance, off picture, has got her attention.
